Automating Data Warehouse Migration to the Cloud with Lakebridge and Snowflake

Migrating a data warehouse to the cloud — specifically the technical conversion of artifacts — can be significantly simplified with automation tools. Their use reduces the workload on data specialists and speeds up the overall migration. At the same time, these tools provide detailed statistics on the progress and results of the conversion, supporting monitoring and quality control.

To gain real value from these tools, it is important to understand the scope of their functionality, their requirements for source technical artifacts, and their role in the overall migration process — where technical conversion is just one of many steps in the cloud migration journey.

For data warehouse migration to the Snowflake platform, we use SnowConvert for relational database artifacts and Snowpark Migration Assistant (SMA) for Apache Spark artifacts. For the Databricks platform, we use Lakebridge.

The conversion itself is iterative. After each cycle, the results are analyzed, source artifacts or conversion rules are adjusted, and the process is repeated until the desired outcome is achieved. The quality of the result depends on many factors, including adherence to best practices in coding.

Migration of Sberbank CZ loans to Česká spořitelna with the contribution of NESS

As a reliable IT and business partner, Ness Czech cooperated in the transfer of loans from Sberbank CZ in liquidation to Česká spořitelna in a transaction with a total value of over CZK 41 billion.

Smooth transition to a new accounting system in an investment bank

The Ness team ensured that all changes to the source systems were successfully incorporated into the data warehouse without any disruption to the delivery of its services.

Ness team was part of the merger of Raiffeisenbank and Equa bank
