Migration of the business system from on-premise to Azure at AllianceBernstein

AllianceBernstein planned to migrate its on-premise business infrastructure to the cloud. Ness was tasked with upgrading and migrating the 25-year-old business system to a cloud-native infrastructure in Azure. At the same time, there was a need to ensure uninterrupted operations and parallel functioning of the existing on-premise and cloud environments.

Ness built and tested the infrastructure in Azure, using Kubernetes for key services that he optimized for auto-scaling and for thousands of current users. Billions of records were migrated and dozens of vendors migrated to the new system without complications.

Ness also conducted a comprehensive review of Azure’s cloud infrastructure, identifying gaps from best practices and creating time and cost plans to address them. The mosturgent fixes were implemented. The solution resulted in 25% fewer operational issues and 15% lower cloud infrastructure costs.

Technologies used: Azure, SQL Server, Kubernetes, Python, Airflow
