EZOPS was looking for a solution to improve Azure SQL performance to achieve similar results to AWS RDS.
Ness was tasked with optimizing Azure SQL performance and provided recommendations on how to achieve the same or better performance than AWS RDS for SQL Server. As part of the testing, he conducted dozens of tests on different variants of Azure SQL infrastructure to identify performance issues and narrow down solution options.
Ness suggested modifications to the indexes, fixed a bug in the database code, and identified differences in query plans and deadlock situations. He also provided comprehensive recommendations on various Azure SQL options, costs, and performance characteristics.
