PriceTag – New pricing and rating system 

Eurowag’s individual fuel transaction pricing system 

System integrator NESS Czech developed a unique 
system for Eurowag for individual fuel pricing and transaction rating, which 
is used by petrol stations for transport and logistics companies in Europe and Asia. The system processes billions of prices in different currencies in real time and enables flexible introduction of new services and business models. The project ran from 2019 to 2021 and lasted 17 months. 30 IT professionals from Ness were involved in the implementation. 

The customer had this area covered by a 10+ year old solution that was no longer able to perform the required functions of a rapidly growing international company. The system mainly encountered performance limitations, user discomfort and inflexibility in introducing new services and business models to the company. 
The company’s sales representatives could not effectively set the right pricing for the ever-growing portfolio of customers and services. Sub-optimal pricing settings made it difficult to meet business objectives. The technical limitations of the solution became a barrier to achieving the company’s innovation and long-term business vision. For example, the original systems did not allow for the creation of product bundles and convergent services.

  • The system allows you to set individual prices for each customer and each petrol station, thus serving up to billions of prices in real time. 
  • The chosen architecture and technology allow the system to scale its performance and thus dynamically adapt to the organic and leapfrog growth of the company. 
  • The system proactively displays a simulation of the financial impact to the user before changing pricing. This allows the company to better predict revenues and meet the business objectives of individual users. 
  • The system allows you to set up approval processes for pricing changes according to the current business hierarchy and the financial impact of each change. Together with analytical and reporting tools, it enables the detection of unwanted errors or fraud in pricing settings. 
  • The system automatically generates initial customer pricing, thus allowing for faster onboarding of new customers, products and outlets. 

Clear result 

  • More than 90% of end-users praise the improvements to the usability of the system and its user interface, including the ability to set pricing on mobile devices. 
  • The system response improved from tens of seconds to minutes to units of seconds for bulk pricing changes over a larger number of customers. The system can price dozens of transactions per second. 
  • The optimization of pricing has already contributed significantly to the achievement of business goals in the first months of using the new application. 
  • Automatic pricing checks reduce the number of pricing errors and subsequent complaints from end customers. 
  • The new system is ready to be expanded with additional features, products and business models in a matter of weeks to months.
